The authors reviewed 83 eyes of 64 patients who received trabeculotomy combined with sinusotomy for primary open-angle glaucoma over six years through 1996 and who could be followed up for five years or longer. The age at surgery averaged 57 ± 12.3 years. The follow-up period averaged 7.2 ± 1.5 years. Intraocular pressure (IOP) averaged 23.6 ± 4.6 mmHg before surgery and 15.4 ± 2.4 mmHg five years after surgery. The difference was significant (p < 0.001). By the acturial life table method, the success rate below 20 mmHg was 0.68 ± 0.05. These findings show that the current surgical modality is clinically useful in inducing prolonged control of IOP.
