Research into polylactides and their copolymers, types of synthetic biodegradable material, is making great progress in the biomaterial field, and is promoting the development of biomedicine. Because of their good biocompatibility, absorbability and plasticity, polylactides and their copolymers can be used as a vehicle for drugs to treat many eye disorders, such as glaucoma, cataract and corneal transplant. Recent studies on polylactides and their copolymers, including their biological characteristics and application potentials of these biodegradable materials in ophthalmology, are reviewed. LA: Chinese
