Glaucoma affects more than 300,000 Canadians and about 67 million people worldwide. The incidence of this disease is growing by 10% yearly. It is the second leading cause of blindness in the world, and the leading cause of blindness among black people. It causes permanent vision loss due to death of retinal ganglion cells and their axons. Treatment is aimed at slowing down disease progression.
