The achievements in glaucoma field have been mainly presented upon the new results from the fundamental problems in clinical & basic studies, for instance, early diagnosis, epidemiology, pathogenesis, neuroprotection, stem cell, natural experimental animal model, gene screening and functions of related genes, and new trends of antiglaucoma surgery. It is necessary to review the progress in basic and clinical glaucoma studies in China in the last five years, to analyse existed problems, to determine the future direction and to enhance the progress of investigation in the field of glaucoma.
