Incidental corneal pseudodendrite recurrence upon reinitiation of latanoprost

PURPOSE: To document the appearance of pseudodendritic keratitis in a pigmentary glaucoma patient, using brimonidine and latanoprost. METHODS: A Hispanic-American patient diagnosed with pigmentary glaucoma developed a pseudodendritic keratitis while using brimonidine and latanoprost. The medicamentosa resolved with palliative treatment, antimicrobial prophylaxis, and discontinuation of latanoprost. The pseudodendritic keratitis recurred following reinstitution of latanoprost as the only medication used to control the intraocular pressure. CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of medicamentosa keratitis may require complete or temporary discontinuation of some ocular therapeutic medications and/or the use of alternate laser/surgical treatment. The appearance and recurrence of pseudodendritic keratitis, in the context of this case, may be viewed as a coincidental presentation or an idiosyncratic corneal toxicity rather than an induced effect secondary to latanoprost use.
