AIM: To explore the feasibility of lameller sclerectomy with topical anesthesia. METHODS: Twenty-five cases (40 eyes) underwent lameller sclerectomy with topical anesthesia from January 2001 to December 2002, and 20 cases (28 eyes) were randomly chosen as controls and were treated by lameller sclerectomy with lidocaine plus bupivacaine for retrobulbar or peribulbar anaesthesia. RESULTS: All the patients in the testing group could endure and cooperate well, with no differences from the controls. CONCLUSION: Topical anesthesia can avoid various complications and is safe for lameller sclerectomy. LA: Chinese
