AIM: To evaluate the effect of phacoemulsificatio on post-trabeculectomy cataract. METHODS: Phacoemulsification combined with IOL implantation was performed on 42 eyes that had undergone trabeculectomy. The visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP) and complications after the operation were followed up. RESULTS: The postoperative visual acuity improved in all 42 eyes, and in 80.9% patients (34/42) increased to 0.5 or more. The IOP kept stable and few complications was observed. CONCLUSIONS: Phacomulsif ication can be used successfully in the treatment of post-trabeculectomy cataracts, though the segregation of pupil posterior synechia, the treatment of shallow anterior chamber should be paid more attention to.
