AIM: To explore the therapeutic efficacy of treating earlier malfunctional filtering bleb after glaucoma filtration surgery with acupuncture separation combined with injection of 5-FU around the filtering bleb. METHODS: Twenty-five eyes of malfunctional filtering bleb after glaucoma filtration surgery in three months were treated with acupuncture separation combined with injection of 5-FU around the filtering bleb every two days to in total five times, then the ocular pressure was analyzed, the forms of the filtering blebs and the complications. RESULTS: Among the 25 eyes, there were 21 eyes in which the ocular pressure was below 21 mmHg, 18 eyes below 15 mmHg and 19 eyes with the functional filtering bleb. The most common complications were corneal epithelium damaged, subconjunctival hemorrhage and filtering bleb damage, etc. CONCLUSION: It is safe and effective to treat earlier malfunctional filtering blebs after glaucoma filtration surgery with acupuncture separation, combined with injection of 5-FU around the filtering bleb.
