We evaluated the additive effect of 1% brinzolamide and 1% dorzolamide on 34 eyes of 34 cases of normal-tension glaucoma. The patients had been receiving latanoprost or beta-blockers. In 18 eyes that received brinzolamide, the baseline intraocular pressure (TOP) averaged 16.3 ± 2.5 mmHg. IOP decreased significantly 1, 3 and 6 months after addition of brinzolamide. In 16 eyes that received dorzolamide, the baseline IOP averaged 16.1 ± 3.3 mmHg. IOP decreased significantly only 6 months after addition of dorzolamide. Considering the known side effects, 1% brinzolamide is to be preferred to 1% dorzolamide for normal-tension glaucoma. LA: Japanese
