We evaluated the effect of 1% brinzolamide on the corneal morphology in 31 eyes of 31 glaucoma patients. The series comprised 18 eyes of primary open-angle glaucoma and 11 eyes of normal-tension glaucoma. The ages ranged from 37 to 80 years, average 61 years. The endothelial cell density significantly decreased after 3 and 6 months of instillation (p < 0.0001). There was no significant change in central corneal thickness or incidence of hexagonal cells after 6 months of instillation. Endothelial cell density and central corneal thickness were independent on type of glaucoma, baseline intraocular pressure, or medication before start of brinzolamide. The findings show that instillation of 1% brinzolamide twice daily does not seem to affect the central corneal thickness or morphology of corneal endothelial cells. LA: Japanese
