AIM: To investigate the causes and the therapeutic approaches of shallow anterior chamber caused by trabeculectomy. METHODS: A total of 40 cases (44 eyes) with postoperative shallow anterior chamber from 230 cases (272 eyes) were analyzed. RESULTS: The shallow anterior chamber mainly resulted from over drainage and choroidal detachment. The depth of shallow anterior chamber was classified according to Spaeth classification: shallow anterior chamber grade I in 30 cases (32 eyes), grade II in 6 cases (6 eyes) and grade III in 4 cases (6 eyes). CONCLUSION: The shallow anterior chamber was mainly caused by over drainage and choroidal detachment while performing trabeculectomy for glaucoma, and it could be cured and prevented effectively wit proper approaches.
