PURPOSE: To examine the volume of one drop and the daily cost of ophthalmic solutions for glaucoma in current use. Material and METHOD: Thirteen kinds of products were measured as to the total volume of one bottle and the volume of one drop by counting drop by drop. The daily cost was calculated from the standard daily dosage and official price of each product. RESULTS: The mean volume of one drop was 41.9 μl (ranged from 29.4 to 52.7 μl), and the mean daily cost was 71.6 yen (ranged from 53.1 to 106.6 yen). The volume of one drop, the daily cost and the usable duration of one bottle became altered after changes in the design of the bottle or preparation regimen. CONCLUSION: Changes in the design of the bottle or preparation regimen affected the usable duration and the daily cost of the ophthalmic solution. LA: Japanese
