Tube erosion following insertion of a glaucoma drainage device with a pericardial patch graft.

These authors report two cases of tube-erosion through the conjunctiva following the use of commercially prepared pericardial patch graft occurring seven and eight months postoperatively. Both cases concern elderly African-American women. The repair of these problems was done with donorsclera. No problems occurred. The point made by these authors is that these pericardial patches may be insufficient for the use in covering the tubes of glaucoma implants. They discuss the possible cause for this insufficiency. Finally they report an observation of seven other eyes with asymptomatic thinning of the pericardial patch graft.
