Late complications of glaucoma filtration surgery

The advent of antifibrosis therapy has increased the success rate of glaucoma filtration surgery in high-risk eyes. There has been a concomitant increase, however, in the rate of postoperative surgical complications. Early postoperative adverse events (in the first postoperative month) include hypotony, shallow of flat anterior chamber, wound leakage, and serous or hemorrhagic ciliochoroidal effusion. This article reviews late complications of glaucoma filtration surgery with emphasis on the incidence, pathogenesis, clinical recognition, and management of the commonly observed adverse events.
