OBJECTIVE: Measurement of the optic nerve head (ONH) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) can offer the valuable parameters for the early diagnosis and monitor of glaucoma. Much equipment have been utilized to measure and calculate these data. We compared the effect of Heidelberg retina tomograph-II (HRT-II) and optical coherence tomography 3000 (OCT3000) to differentiate healthy eyes and glaucomatous eyes. METHODS: Forty eyes with open-angle glaucomatous eyes were examined using HRT- II and OCT3000, and 46 normal eyes from age-matched subjects were as control. The receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) of examinees were calculated. Each parameter including ONH, RNFL thickness from HRT-II and OCT3000 measurements was compared, and the diagnostic value of different parameter was evaluated. RESULTS: Optimal sensitivities, specificities, and areas under ROC were 82.5, 87, 0.919 in rim area in HRT-II; the inferior RNFL thickness was 90, 89.1, 0.936 in OCT3000. Agreement on categorization (the kappa value) between HRT-II and OCT3000 was 0.661. CONCLUSION: Agreement on categorization between OCT3000 and HRT-II in detecting glaucoma is substantial. According to the assessment of all parameters from these two instruments, OCT3000 has a better diagnostic value than HRT-II. LA: Chinese
