OBJECTIVES: To modify trabeculectomy to maintain an effective filtration by several passages. METHODS: Cyclectomy has been performed before trabeculectomy on 55 disparate glaucomatous eyes. RESULTS: The success rates for decreased intraocular pressures less than 21 mmHg and visual acuity preservation were 50/55 and 51/55, respectively. The complications were quite similar with those seen after trabeculectomy. CONCLUSIONS: This new surgical method has been proven to be efficient for refractory glaucomatous eyes.
