AIM: To evaluate the effect of iris neovascular photocoagulation by 532-nm laser combined with Healon agent in the trabeculectomy of neovascular glaucoma. METHODS: In 18 neovascular glaucoma cases, 532-nm laser therapy was first applied to seal the surface vascular. Trabeculectomy was performed 1 week later, with Healon agent applied during the operation. The changes of intraocular lens (IOP), anterior chamber and filtering bleb were carefully observed after surgery in the follow-up of 10 months. RESULTS: There was no anterior chamber hyphema during the surgery in any cases. Functional dispersed blebs could be observed. The IOP was 1-5 mmHg in 1 week after surgery, 2-10 mmHg at 2-4 weeks after surgery and 6-12 mmHg during the follow-up period. CONCLUSION: The sealing of iris neovascularization by 532-nm laser following the trabeculectomy and using Healon agent during operation can effectively reduce the risk of anterior chamber hyphema, obstruction of filtration entrance in neovascular glaucoma. Therefore it can improve the operation success of the neovascular glaucoma and provide an economical and effective therapy for neovascular glaucoma. LA: Chinese
