In order to better understand the role of the antioxidant system in primary glaucoma, the authors decided to study a new method for glutathione quantitation in the aqueous humor by capillary electrophoresis (CE). Their aim was to find a rapid and reliable technique to measure the amount of GSH and GSSG in the aqueous humor of glaucomatous and normal subjects. Reduced and oxidized glutathione were dosed in aqueous samples of 30 patients (group A) undergoing trabeculectomy. As a control group, the authors selected 15 healthy patients (group B) surgery for pterygium. The results are reported. LA: Italian
