This study was performed in order to compare the intraocular pressure control of common trabeculectomy versus sclerectomy in subjects with combined surgery. Fifty subjects who had undergone combined surgery for cataract and glaucoma were studied; 25 had had common trabeculectomy and 25 sclerectomy. Intraocular pressure was measured the next day, 15 days, one and six months after surgery. A percentile analysis was performed to determine the efficacy of both techniques. RESULTS: Thirty-two (64%) subjects were female and 18 (36%) were male. The mean age was 64.5 years. At the end of the observation period, eight subjects from the first group and 12 from the second group needed topical medication for appropriate control of intraocular pressure. CONCLUSIONS: The combined surgical technique for cataract and glaucoma with common trabeculectomy had better results. LA: Spanish
