OBJECTIVE: Perimetry as a subjective examination has been used for detection of vision field defect in glaucoma; however some of false positive result is reported. It is important to find a new alternative method to detect the early changes of vision function in patients with glaucoma. In the current paper, we investigated the changes of multifocal visual evoked potential (mfVEP) in glaucoma patients. METHODS: MfVEP of 22 patients (40 eyes) with glaucoma and 22 normal subjects (41 eyes) matched in age and gender were recorded using VERIS with four-channel. Each stimulated patch was compared between two groups. The value of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was used to analyze the results. RESULTS: The responses of the stimulated patches of patients with glaucoma were decreased significantly compared with those of normal subjects, especially in the upper visual field (P < 0.05 - 0.01). In the central 10° visual field mfVEP from glaucoma patients was significantly decreased, and the reduce of mfVEP was consisted with the defecting range of visual field. CONCLUSION: MfVEP is a potential tool for the diagnosis of glaucoma patients. LA: Chinese
