AIM: To explore the effectiveness and safety of Ahmed glaucoma valve parcels resection combined with amniotic membrane transplantation under conjunctival flap in the treatment of refractory glaucoma. METHODS: Ahmed glaucoma valve parcels resection combined with amniotic membrane transplantation under conjunctival flap was done on 28 eyes with ascended intraocular pressure (IOP) caused by drainage parcels after Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation. The resected film underwent laboratory examinations. RESULTS: The mean postoperative IOP was 15.4 mmHg after one month and rise to 18.6 mmHg three months later with the success rate of 83%. CONCLUSION: Ahmed glaucoma valve parcels resection plus amniotic membrane transplantation under conjunctival flap and application of mitomycin was effective and safe, which can be used to improve the success rate of refractory glaucoma surgeries.
