AIM: To investigate a method of immediate and effective treatment for acute elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) after cataract surgery. METHODS: The absence of glaucoma history and normal IOP preoperatively were needed for those postoperative patients with high IOP. Topical anesthesia was performed and the posterior lip of adjunctive corneal limbus incision was oppressed to release aqueous humor through using a one-mL syringe. RESULTS: In total, 67 cases were dealt with. Sixty-five eyes obtained normal IOP by releasing aqueous humor only once, one eye by twice and one eye by four times. Hyphema occurred in 66 eyes and was absorbed by the treatment of semi-reclining position bed rest and using antihemorrhagic systemically for three to five days. Other complications were not detected. CONCLUSION: Releasing aqueous humor through adjunctive corneal limbus incision is an economical and practical method in treating elevated IOP after cataract surgery, which has fewer complications and immediate effects in decreasing IOP, restoring corneal transparency, relievino clinical symptoms of high IOP and reducing the vision damage.
