Pseudoexfoliative material on the IOL surface and development of glaucoma after cataract surgery in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome

We report four cases of pseudoexfoliation syndrome in which pseudoexfoliative material appeared on the intraocular lens (IOL) surface and glaucoma developed more than eight years after cataract surgery. The IOL haptic was located in the ciliary sulcus in three eyes and in the capsular bag in one eye. This report suggests that careful follow-up is essential to monitor the development of glaucoma in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome, particularly when an IOL is implanted in the sulcus.
