Although adherence to medication regimen in glaucoma patients is important to well controlled ocular tension and good visual function, glaucoma patients may not take medicine following the doctors' orders even stop it sometimes because of kinds of factors in real lives. Clinicians need to distinguish between problems of efficacy versus those of adherence and persistence in order to achieve the best possible patient outcomes and to avoid making unnecessary and costly changes in therapy. So, clinicians should think highly of the medication adherence in glaucoma patients in clinical works. This review summarized reported articles about medication adherence in glaucoma in recent years to examine the factors affecting compliance in order to suggest ways of improving compliance with eye drops.
