Nuclear factor -κB(NF-κB) regulates the transcription of a wide array of gene products, which is involved in many pathological and physiological processes, such as cell differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and immune/inflammatory reactions. Activation of NF-κB may be a pivotal event in proinflammatory signal transduction. But, its excessive activation would lead to many diseases with severe chronic/ acute inflammatory responses. Recently studies showed that NF-κB plays an important role in many eye diseases, such as ocular surface disease, glaucoma, uveitis, cataract, ocular fundus disease and so on. The inhibition of NF-κB activity may be a new therapeutic target in ophthalmology. The present article reviewed the research advances of NF-κB and relevant oculopathy. LA: Chinese
