AIM: To investigate the clinical characteristics and surgical effects of retinal detachment(RD). METHODS: We reviewed 90 cases (94 eyes) of rhegmatogenous RD and analyzed the relations of clinical characteristics, related factors, surgical effects and complications. RESULTS: 91% of RD patients were cured, 3% failed, re-detachment occurred in 6%. The visual acuity (VA) were improved in 75 eyes (80%), remained stable in 16 eyes (17%), declined in 3 eyes (3%). Nineteen eyes (20%) of RD were emmetropia, with RD in fellow eye in 9 eyes, retinal degeneration in 41 eyes, dry retinal breaks in 9 eyes. The main complication of RD was high intraocular pressure in 18 eyes (60%). CONCLUSION: The key of successful RD surgeries is to find the breaks. Retinal re-detachments recur with wide range of RD or macular holes. Myopia is the high risk related to RD, an ocular or head trauma are the high risks of emmetropia with RD. LA: Chinese
