AIM: To investigate the alterations of success rate of glaucoma filtering surgery accompanied by different schemes of 5-Fu application. METHODS: There were 176 cases collected from January 2001 to August 2007, who were treated with glaucoma filtering surgery accompanied by 5-Fu application. The specific schemes of 5-Fu application for each case were recorded in details, and then the complications and the success rate of the operation were compared. RESULTS: The application of 5-Fu in high doses could not increase operation success rate (P = 0. 320). The application of 5-Fu in the first postoperative day had the highest operation success rate (P = 0. 015). The postoperative application of 5-Fu in a month which had a mean number of injections of 5.4 times may induce good results. CONCLUSION: 5-Fu acts as glaucoma filtering surgery adjunct drug. If it is applied correctly and rationally it can significantly enhance operation success rate. LA: Chinese
