The sanitary technologies (TS) can be defined as 'all resources used aiming to satisfy the individual or collective sanitary requirements of people; where medicines could be considered as one of the most used'. Chronic pathologies, such as glaucoma, require long term treatments and, in this context, the importance of TS became relevant. The glaucoma is an optical chronic evolutionary neuropathy which can produce blindness if an appropriate treatment is not provided. The treatment is based on the diminution of intraocular pressure using several strategies in which the administration of hypotensive drugs is one of the most used. The aim of the present article is to describe the use of this kind of medicines and their respective therapeutic schemes of administration, in the current ophthalmologic practice. LA: Spanish
