AIM: To explore the clinical efficiency of the glaucoma trabeculectomy applying tunnel knife for making sclera flap combined with mitomycin C. METHODS: A total of 53 cases (61 eyes) of glaucoma received trabeculectomy. During operation, a tunnel knife was applied for making a sclera flap, and soaked in 0.4 g/L mitomycin C for 2 minutes. RESULTS: Follow-up lasted for 12 months. Postoperative IOP significantly decreased compared with preoperative condition. Functional filtering bleb formation rate was 93%. There were no persistent shallow anterior chamber, low tension-related macular degeneration, and other serious complications. CONCLUSION: Usinga tunnel knife to make a sclera flap has merits like small wounds and short time, flap thickness uniformity, smooth surface, and so on. When combined with mitomycin C, it will significantly reduce postoperative scar adhesion of the filtration passage and improve trabeculectomy surgery success rate. LA: Chinese
