Epidemiological survey of blindness in Foping of Shaanxi province

AIM: To investigate the blindness rate and causes in Foping of Shaanxi province. METHODS: According to stratified random sampling rule, 8 725 persons were chosen as the sample in the Foping. The WHO grading system for blindness was followed in the survey. RESULTS: The prevalence of blindness was 0.95%, resulting chiefly from cataract (46.99%), corneal diseases (28.92%), glaucoma (12.05%). CONCLUSION: The epidemiological results show that the main cause of blindness is cataract. LA: Chinese
