Development of controlled drug delivery systems open new vistas in the ophthalmic drug therapy. The use of these systems has benefits for various illnesses of the eye - inflammation caused by exogen infections (uveitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis), injury, diseases caused by endogen reasons (Cataracta, glaucoma). In the case of conventional products the reproduction of the doses is difficult, to retain the microbiological stability preservatives have to be employed, these materials are able to deplate the tissues of the eye, for example the cornea. In the aspect of the patients the frequent application of the product, the burning and sciatic feeling by the application of the dosage form can cause problems. The therapeutic systems consist of biocompatible ingredients, they can cover the irritating effect of an agent. Accordingly less drug and less application will be enough to treate the diseases of the eye and the systemic side effects can be avoided. LA: Hungarian
