Tissue transglutaminase (tTG), one of transglulaminases, is a multifunctional calcium-dependent enzyme. It widely exists in most cells and tissues of body. It can catalyzes the cross-linking of proteins and takes part in many physiologic and pathologic processes, such as growing of cells, adhering of cells, apoptosis, signal transduction and so on. Presently, it is found that tTG also plays an important role in the pathogenesis of primary open angle glaucoma and scarring after glaucoma filtering surgery. The relationships of tTG and glaucoma, tTG and filtering surgey, tTG and extracellular matrix (ECM) were reviewed. LA: Chinese
