Analysis on clinical effects of 14 patients with exfoliation syndrome

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical character and operation treatment effect of exfoliation syndrome. METHODS: To analyze the clinical character and operation treatment effect of 14 cases (18 eyes) of exfoliation syndrome retrospectively. RESULTS: All the cases accompany with catacact with open anterior chamber angle. 5 eyes with glaucoma. 11 eyes with the pupil difficult to enlarge. 3 eyes were performed the operation of phacoemulsification and IOL implantation and trabeculaectomy. 13 eyes were performed the operation of phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. 2 eyes were performed the operation of ECCE. During operation 1 eye with rupture of posterior capsular and 1 eye with rupture of lens zonule. After operation 13 eyes with different exutation in anterior chamber and 1eye with IOL dislocation which was performed IOL suture operation. The IOP of all eyes were lower than that of pre - operation. CONCLUSIONS: Exfoliation syndrome often accompany with cataract and glaucoma. The pupil was difficult to be enlarged and the lens zonule was weak. The complication during operation seems higher and exudation after operation seems serious. So the preparation before operation and perfect procedure during operation and closely following up are very important. LA: Chinese
