AIM: To observe the long-term effect of combined krypton and Q-switched Nd: YAG laser peripheral iridotomy for treating primary angle-closure glaucoma by compared with short-term effect. METHODS: Forty-eight eyes (39 cases) of primary angle-closure glaucoma underwent combind krypton and Q-switched Nd: YAG laser peripheral iridotomy. The result difference of the 1-year and the 7-year follow-up was compared. RESULTS: The successful rate of performing a patent combined iris perforation was 100.0% and 97.9% of them were completed by once of shot. The intraocular pressure decreased to normal level one year after treatment and there was no obvious difference in IOP, visual acuity, angle of anterior chamber, and visual fields of the twice follow-up. CONCLUSION: Combined iridotomy is simple and seems to be more preferable to the iris of chinese people. The combined krypton and Q-switched Nd: YAG laser peripheral iridotomy is effective with good long-term effects and can prevent a acute attack for a long time. LA: Chinese
