AIM: To compare the incidence of shallow anterior chamber after the compound trabeculectomy and traditional trabeculectomy. METHODS: The 56 cases (71 eyes) with glaucoma were divided into tow groups in random, 29cases (36 eyes) in study group (group A) underwent the compound trabeculectomy while 27cases (35 eyes) in control group (group B) underwent traditional trabeculectomy, the incidence of postoperative shallow anterior chamber between two groups were observed and analyzed. Results: Postoperative shallow anterior chamber: there were 5 eyes in group A (14%) while 13 eyes in group B (37%), the statistic difference was significant (X(2) = 5. 07, P < 0. 05). CONCLUSION: The compound trabeculectorny is better than traditional trabeculectomy in keeping the depth of postoperative anterior chamber, which could effectively decrease the postoperative shallow anterior chamber and elevate the rates of surgical success.
