AIM: To evaluate the application of blue-on-yellow perimetry (B/YP) of macular program in detecting the early visual field loss of glaucoma. METHODS: White-on-white perimetry (W/WP) of the G2 strategy (dG2W/WP), the W/WP and B/YP of the M2 strategy (dM2W/WP, dM2B/YP) in the Octopus 101 automated perimetry were used to examine the visual field defects of 11 cases (15 eyes) of early primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), 14 cases (17 eyes) of middle and late POAG and 14 cases (28 eyes) of suspected POAG. The statistical analysis on the examination results was carried out. RESULTS: In three kinds of visual field examination methods, dM2B/YP was the most sensitive method in detecting the glaucomatous visual field defects. The sensitivity of dG2W/WP, dM2W/WPand dM2B/YP in the diagnosis of early glaucoma was 47%, 53%, 93% respectively; the sensitivity of dG2W/WP, dM2W/WP and dM2B/YP in the detecting of glaucomatous visual field defects was 75%, 75%, 97% respectively. CONCLUSION: The B/YP of macular program is a relatively sensitive method for detecting the early visual field defects in POAG. LA: Chinese
