AIM: To explore the clinical efficacy of phacoemulsification, intraocular lens capsular bag implantation and trabeculectomy for the treatment of glaucoma with cataract. METHODS: Thirty-six patients with cataract and glaucoma who underwent phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation and trabeculectomy were reviewed, and postoperative visual acuity, intraocular pressure(IOP) and complications, were summarized. RESULTS: The average IOP 4 weeks after operation was 15.50 (plus or minus) 4.90mmHg. Compared with the preoperative 30.60 (plus or minus) 6.80mmHg, the difference was statistically significant (f = 7.76, P < 0.05). Postoperative visual acuity was markedly improved and no serious complications occured. CONCLUSION: Phacoemulsification, intraocular lens capsular bag implantation and trabeculectomy seem to be good for visual recovery and reduction of postoperative complications of glaucoma and in favor of intraocular pressure control.
