The authors used topical latanoprost in 21 eyes of 11 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. They had previously been using multiple topical medications. Ten eyes had been treated by two medications. After switching to latanoprost only, the intraocular pressure (IOP) averaged 20.2 ± 1.4 mmHg before and 17.5 ± 4.9 mmHg after switching. The difference was significant (p = 0.04). Eleven eyes had been treated by three medications. After switching to latanoprost and beta-blocker, the IOP averaged 17.2 ± 2.8 mmHg before and 17.2 ± 4.0 mmHg after switching. There was no significant difference. These findings show that reduction in the number of topical medications by latanoprost may result in good IOP control contributing to improved compliance. LA: Japanese
