Ophthalmic solutions are the main therapeutic methods used in the treatment of ocular diseases, including glaucoma. Preservatives are added in multidose solutions to reduce the risk of microbial contamination. Repeated use of topical medication, especially in patients treated for glaucoma, has many adverse effects especially on the ocular surface. This paper provides an overview of the role of preservatives in antiglaucoma preparations, and their impact on the ocular surface. LA: Romanian
