We measured the central corneal thickness in 184 eyes of 94 patients. The series comprised 85 eyes of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), 66 eyes of normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) and 33 eyes of ocular hypertension (OHT). The findings were assessed regarding the intraocular pressure, visual field, type of glaucoma and therapeutic modalities. The corneal thickness averaged 531.1 mu m in POAG. This value was significantly smaller than that in NTG or OHT eyes. The corneal thickness was less than average in POAG and NTG in eyes with advanced visual field defect. The findings show the usefulness of measurement of corneal thickness in estimating the stage of POAG and NTG.
