This paper proposes to study the ophthalmic and carotid circulation of patients with primary open-angle glaucoma in varied stages of evolution. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eight patients with primary open-angle glaucoma were selected such that one eye was absolute or quasi-absolute and the other eye was in the incipient stage. The average (medium) age was 64 years, and the patients had blood pressure within normal limits. Study of ophthalmic and carotid circulation was carried out by echo-Doppler and the calculation of velocimetric indices. RESULTS: The resistance index was increased in accordance with the stage of glaucoma. Diastolic flux was the most serious problem. There is no parallel between blood pressure value and grade of affectation of velocimetric indices. CONCLUSIONS: Local vascular diseases, ophthalmic and carotid, unfavorably influence the evolution of primary open-angle glaucoma. LA: <#>
