Abstract #5780 Published in IGR 2-1

Target pressures in glaucoma

Zeyen T
Bulletin de la Société Belge d'Ophtalmologie 1999; 274:61-65

Despite exciting progress in the field of neuro-protection, lowering the intraocular pressure is still the only available option for treating glaucoma patients. The level to which the intraocular pressure should be lowered is different for each individual patient. The formula proposed to calculate the 'target pressure' takes into account the pressure at which the glaucomatous damage presumably occurred (the 'maximum pressure') and the risk of future damage. This target pressure should be re-evaluated periodically.
