Late closure of argon laser iridotomies following regrowth of iris pigment epithelium

In a small case series, the authors report on the late closure of laser iridotomies. This has been reported earlier in the literature, but the point made by the authors, which they illustrate with two cases, is that the closure is due to regrowth of the iris pigment epithelium. Ultrasound biomicroscopy was performed solely at the iris pigment epithelial level, with no filling of the stromal defect. In eyes with late closure of the iridotomy due to iris pigment epithelial regrowth, the cells proliferate into the opening from the entire circumference of the iridotomy towards its center.
