OBJECTIVE: To evaluate how to reduce the incidence of postoperative complications after trabeculectomy. METHODS: Forty-two cases (44 eyes) of glaucoma in experimental group were operated on with trabeculectomy by the addition of healon, and 50 cases (58 eyes) as a control group were operated on with trabeculectomy without healon. The postoperative complications in the two groups were compared. RESULTS: The incidence of postoperative complications in experimental group was much lower than that of the control group. Statistic data showed that there were great differences between the two groups (chi2 = 8.36, p < 0.01). Also, it showed difference in the incidence of superficial anterior chamber after trabeculectomy between the two groups (chi2 = 4.7, p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Trabeculectomy with healon can reduce the incidence of postoperative complications and improve the safety of the operation. LA: Chinese
