The authors evaluated the effect of latanoprost for glaucoma with insufficient control of intraocular pressure (IOP) in 150 eyes of 150 patients. The series comprised primary open-angle glaucoma (83 eyes), normal-tension glaucoma (41 eyes), secondary glaucoma (12 eyes), and others. The effect was defined as very effective when the outflow pressure improved by 30% or more, as effective when it improved by 10% or more, and as ineffective when it was less than 10%. The effect was further defined as reduced when the IOP rose to or above the pretreatment level after initial improvement. Within two months of latanoprost instillation, 119 eyes (79%) were judged as effective, including 63 very effective eyes (42%), leaving 27 ineffective eyes (18%) and four drop-out eyes. Reduced effect was observed in 56 initially effective eyes (47%), including 18 very effective eyes (29%). Reduced effect in very effective eyes was mainly due to the number of concomitantly used medications and the pretreatment IOP level. LA: Japanese
