A case of acute exacerbation of secondary open-angle glaucoma following latanoprost instillation

A 70-year-old male had had recurrent attacks of bilateral open-angle glaucoma secondary to iritis during the past eight years. A single instillation of latanoprost in his right eye was followed by exacerbation of iritis. The intraocular pressure (IOP) was 28 mmHg before, 45 mmHg two days after, and 55 mmHg three days after instillation. Topical and systemic corticosteroid induced remission of iritis and a reduction of IOP below 22 mmHg. This case illustrates that topical latanoprost may induce acute exacerbation of glaucoma secondary to active iritis. Due caution is advocated with the use of latanoprost in such cases. LA: Japanese
