OBJECTIVE: To investigate the risk factors, etiology and management of intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation after posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC-IOL) implantation. METHODS: A retrospective study was performed on 2363 eyes that underwent cataract extraction with PC-IOL implantation. RESULTS: In 55 of 2363 eyes, postoperative IOP elevation occurred (2.33%). The incidence of IOP elevation after phacoemulsification (phaco) was 1.3%, while that after extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) was 4% (p < 0.05). Previous intraocular surgery, high myopia, or diabetes were risk factors for IOP elevation after PC-IOL implantation. CONCLUSIONS: IOP elevation after PC-IOL implantation can be controlled by close clinical observation and follow-up, as well as by effective management. LA: Chinese
