PURPOSE: To determine the combined hypotensive effect of latanoprost and unoprostone for primary open-angle glaucoma. CASES AND METHOD: A total of 23 eyes of 23 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma were treated by topical unoprostone twice daily. Additionally, they received topical latanoprost once a day. Unoprostone was withdrawn and latanoprost was continued after an average of 4.4 ± 2.0 months. RESULTS: The intraocular pressure (IOP) averaged 18.9 ± 2.4 mmHg when treated by unoprostone alone. It decreased to 15.0 ± 2.3 mmHg after the addition of latanoprost. The difference was significant (p < 0.01). After the withdrawal of unoprostone, IOP averaged 15.1 ± 2.4 mmHg. CONCLUSION: The combined use of latanoprost and unoprostone does not induce additive hypotensive effect when compared with latanoprost alone.LA: Japanese
