OBJECTIVE: To discuss the effect of non-penetrating trabeculectomy combined with the implantation of drainage instrument with hydrophilic acrylic acid padding on open angle glaucoma. METHODS: Non-penetrating trabeculectomy combined with the implantation of drainage instrument was performed in 16 cases (24 eyes) with open-angle glaucoma. The postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP), vision, filtering bled and visual fields were observed. RESULTS: In 16 cases (24 eyes), mean preoperative IOP was 22 ± 30.39 mmHg and was 14.31 ± 17.01 mmHg two months after the operation. Mean IOP was 15.02 ± 18.52 mmHg six months postoperatively. Filtering blebs appeared in 12 cases (18 eyes, 75%). A decompression value was seen behind the trabecula at the operative area during chamber angle examination. CONCLUSIONS: This operative method is safe and effective. The hydrophic acrylic acid padding is a good drainage material under the scleral flap.LA: Chinese
