The compared the efficacy in lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) of 0.5% timolol maleate gel-forming solution (GFS) once daily with 0.5% timolol maleate ophthalmic solution twice daily in patients with open-angle glaucoma. In both treatment groups (30 eyes each), IOP was measured at baseline and at weeks 2, 4, 8, 12, and 24. The mean decrease of IOP at trough ranged from 5.5-5.9 Hg for timolol GFS and from 6.1-6.5 mmHg for timolol solution.
